Veteran-Owned Small Business Memo (VOSB/SDVOSB Certified Businesses): Certification Renewal is Launching in MySBA Certifications on November 1, 2025

Veteran-Owned Small Business Memo (VOSB/SDVOSB Certified Businesses): Certification Renewal is Launching in MySBA Certifications on November 1, 2025

Greetings,

On May 13, 2025, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) issued a program update to certified Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (VOSBs) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs). The announcement provided SBA-certified VOSBs and SDVOSBs an additional six (6) months eligibility extension.

What does this mean for your next certification renewal?

This means your firm will have an additional six months before you will need to complete the certification renewal process. Pursuant to 13 CFR 128.306, you may recertify (hereafter referred to as “renew”) within 90 calendar days prior to the end of your extended eligibility period.

Example: A certified VOSB’s original eligibility period end date was August 1, 2025. The firm's eligibility end date is now extended by 6 months to February 1, 2026. The firm may renew within 90 calendar days prior to that date, or as early as November 1, 2025.

Please note that SBA will not be issuing individual letters to VOSB/SDVOSB Participants with updated eligibility period end dates. Contracting officers should refer to SBA's Small Business Search to determine a VOSB/SDVOSB’s certification status.

How will the certification renewal process work?

You will complete certification renewal in the MySBA Certifications platform. An initial notification will be sent via email to the business contact listed for the firm in SAM.gov 90 days prior to the extended eligibility period end date. Additional reminder notifications will be sent during this 90-day renewal window. The notifications will provide instructions for completing the certification renewal process.

Important note: If your business has multiple certifications, SBA has aligned your certification renewal dates to reduce the burden of renewal to only once per three years for all certifications for which the business is certified.  A firm that is also certified in the 8(a) program must continue to complete its 8(a) annual review each year.

What can you do now to prepare?

If you have not already established an account, please sign up for an account in MySBA Certifications and Claim your Business.

Ongoing obligations

Pursuant to 13 CFR 128.306, certified VOSBs and SDVOSBs must maintain eligibility during participation in the program and must inform SBA of any changes that may affect eligibility within 30 calendar days. For instructions on reporting changes in MySBA Certifications, see User Guide: Change Request.

Additionally, Participants must respond to any program examination initiated by SBA to remain a certified VOSB or SDVOSB.
