Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) Memo: 6-Month Extension

Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) Memo: 6-Month Extension

Greetings,

On May 13, 2025, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) issued a program update to firms participating in the Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) federal contracting programs. The announcement provided SBA certified VOSB and SDVOSB Participants an additional six (6) months eligibility extension.

What does this mean for your next recertification?

This means your firm will have an additional six months before you will need to complete the recertification process. Pursuant to 13 CFR 128.306, you may recertify within 90 calendar days prior to the end of your extended eligibility period.

Example: A VOSB firm’s eligibility period end date is August 1, 2025. The firm's eligibility end date is now extended by 6 months to February 1, 2026. The firm may recertify within 90 calendar days prior to that date, or as early as November 1, 2025.

Please note that SBA will not be issuing individuals letters to VOSB/SDVOSB Participants with updated eligibility period end dates. Contracting officers should refer to SBA - Dynamic Small Business Search to determine a VOSB/SDVOSB firm’s certification status.

Will my certification expiration date be updated in Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS)?

SBA will be removing the expiration date field from your firm’s DSBS profile. The other fields will remain the same. If your firm exits the program (decertification or voluntary withdrawal), your firm’s DSBS profile will have an exit date field. This update creates consistency across the SBA’s certification programs including HUBZone and Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB)/ Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB).

How will the recertification process work?

You will complete recertification in the MySBA Certifications platform. An initial notification will be sent via email to the business contact listed for the firm in http://SAM.gov 90 days prior to the extended eligibility period end date. Additional reminder notifications will be sent during the 90-day period. The notifications will provide instructions for completing the recertification process.

What can you do now to prepare?

If you have not already established an account, please sign up for an account in MySBA Certifications and Claim your Business.

For step by step instructions, see How do I Create a MySBA Certifications Account? and Claiming a Business in MySBA Certifications.

Ongoing obligations

Pursuant to 13 CFR 128.306, VOSB or SDVOSB Participants must maintain eligibility during participation in the program and must inform SBA of any changes that may affect eligibility within 30 calendar days. Continue to use Veteran Small Business Certification to report changes until information is shared about a future MySBA Certifications continuing eligibility module.

Additionally, Participants must respond to any program examination initiated by SBA to remain a certified VOSB or SDVOSB.

Thank you,
